After hearing about the HC-12 operating distance over a kilometer, I wanted to test it by myself. What kind of information one sends is not defined, however with the longer distance data transfer rate is going down.
Sending some measurement data over a long distance sounds boring. It would be more interesting to test the functionality with a message sender- an Arduino based WhatsApp.
This project was mainly a programming project. From another project, I had two Arduino Due touch screens over that were ideal for this project. The HC-12 uses the second Due Serial connection, making communication slightly faster. In the end the project did as intended - one can send and receive messages. The maximum distance that I tested was approximately 10m. After that distance the results were not always reliable. Most probably the used antenna was for other frequency range.
